Anchor Antics: Newsroom Nonsense

Writing the Satire

Newsrooms are satire’s stage – nonsense it up. Target an anchor: “He broke news – sense broke too.” Hit the spin – scoops, hype: “Top scoop: air’s real!” Keep it fresh – old flops. Write: “She says rain – calls it tears.” Stewart’s “Daily Show” inspires. Start yours: “News says sun – I soak.” Practice turns broadcasts into baloney.

Teaching the Technique

Teach news jabs with a spin twist. Give “storm hits” – twist: “Storm’s a scoop – sky’s mad!” Show Stewart clips – spin, zing. Steps: scoop, quirk, jab. Assign “dull beat” – spark: “Cat naps – world gasps!” Discuss hook: fresh wins. Warn off stale – now rules. Anchor-off: pitch a nonsense, best baloney wins. News is noise – teach them to noise it.
