Reel Ribbing: Film Funnies
Writing the Satire
Films satire screen – rib it reel. Target a flick: “Blockbuster flops – popcorn shines.” Hit the tropes – heroes, cuts: “Hero saves day – I nap.” Keep it sharp – dull flops. Write: “Sequel says wow – I yawn.” Mel Brooks spoofs inspire. Start yours: “Ad says epic – I snooze.” Practice turns reels into ribs.
Teaching the Technique
Teach film jabs with a reel twist. Give “hero wins” – twist: “Won so big, I slept!” Show Brooks clips – trope, zing. Steps: flick, quirk, jab. Assign “bad end” – spark: “End so dull, screen quit!” Discuss snap: sharp wins. Warn off flat – rib rules. Reel-off: pitch a funny, best rib wins. Films a frame – teach them to frame it.
