Satire: Hypocrisy’s Harvest

How to Write and Teach Satire: Hypocrisy’s Harvest

Writing the Satire

Hypocrisy is satire’s juicy fruit – pluck it ripe. Target a green guru: “He flies private to save trees – jet fuel’s eco!” Hit the gap – a pol: “He bans vice, owns a casino.” Expose the split – it’s gold. Moliere’s “Tartuffe” rips fakes. Start close: “Boss says hustle – naps all day.” Practice reaps double-talk into laughs, ripe and raw.

Teaching the Technique

Teach hypocrisy with a spot-the-fake. Give “vegan push” – twist: “Vegan star eats steak – cow’s honored!” Show Moliere clips – split, sting. Steps: claim, truth, jab. Assign “fit fad” – spark: “Gym boss waddles – fitness king!” Discuss bite: gap wins. Warn off vague – split rules. Hypocrisy-off: pitch a fake, best gap wins. Hypocrisy’s a mask – teach them to yank it.
